In the martial arts, rather than using a handshake, we greet each other with a bow.
Bowing to someone never is a sign of inferiority or subservience. Rather it is a sign of respect and camaraderie.
Bow when you enter and leave the dojo each day. Bow when you step on and off the deck.
Bow to greet fellow martial artists, especially those of higher rank, the first time you see them each day.
Bow to show respect for a training partner before and after drills.
